China's State Administration for Market Regulation has issued two new metrological technical specifications for electronic price scales, set to take effect in 2026 and 2027. These regulations aim to combat cheating and enhance market supervision through key measures:
· "Shell-locking & authorized unlocking": Scales lock automatically when opened, only unlockable via secure dynamic codes by authorized personnel, preventing tampering.
· "Unique information verification": Each scale has unique identity data (production/repair codes) for traceability, helping identify counterfeits.
· "Three codes and one seal": Standardizes production, maintenance, verification codes, and lead seals for full-process oversight.
In 2024, nationwide inspections covered 217 manufacturers, 30,000 sellers, and 600,000+ usage sites (e.g., markets). Authorities seized 40,000+ unqualified scales, rectified 1,017 markets lacking fair scales, and handled 21,600 metrological violation cases, significantly purifying the market.
· Yangzhou launched a "one scale, one QR code" system, enabling consumers to check scale info/verification status via scanning, covering 98.6% of local scales.
· Weinan, Shaanxi, conducted surprise checks on mobile vendors/night markets, and taught citizens to use their phones as portable "weights" to verify scale accuracy.
Brands are rolling out smarter, more diverse scales—from budget home weight scales (e.g., Aohang at ¥39) to professional models (e.g., Meile MT203/208) with data transmission and analysis, driving market competition.
